“Tell the people of Israel, ‘Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt.’”
Matthew 21:5
I wonder how many people missed seeing Jesus when He rode into Jerusalem, simply because they were not looking for Him! Maybe they had given up hope. After all, it had been hundreds of years since their ancestors heard that prophecy.
Some translations say, “Behold, your King is coming!” In other words, pay attention—don’t miss Him! I wonder if I have ever missed Jesus showing up in my life because I gave up looking for Him. If I were truly looking, I would pay attention to HIS promises rather than the enemy’s lies. I would keep gazing in HIS direction rather than focusing on my problems.
I notice God’s promise was personal: “YOUR king is coming…” I also notice God made the first move—He came TO them! Furthermore, the Israelites were told their king would come riding on a donkey. So, perhaps some of them missed seeing Him because He didn’t arrive according to THEIR expectations!
My King has also promised He will come TO me. But do I try to dictate HOW He should come, WHAT He should look like, and what He should DO? May my expectations never keep me from seeing Him!
Every day King Jesus wants show up in my life—
Am I looking for Him?
