“Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord.”
“She replied, ‘…I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord…
I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.’”
1 Samuel 1:10, 15-16
I remember sitting on a little stool in the middle of my Moldova kitchen, crying bitter tears. After living overseas for decades, I thought I would finally get to live near my children. But when we discovered the cost of living in their state was way beyond our budget, I literally cried for days.
I, a mother, and Hannah, a want-to-be mother…both in anguish and sorrow, both discouraged and crying bitterly. However, neither of us cried alone…we were pouring out our hearts to the Lord.
Hannah cried bitterly because she was childless, and the continual taunts of her husband’s other wife only increased her pain and sorrow. But Hannah knew the best place to cry, in the presence of Peace and Power. Hannah cried to the Lord of Heaven’s Armies (v. 11). To what greater Person could she cry?
When bitter tears fall at the feet of the LORD overall, miracles happen…first in your heart and then in your life. Hannah’s baby boy arrived in due time. And the miracle home near my children showed up a year later. But both gifts were born because bitter tears not only fell on a bare floor. They fell at the feet of a Miracle Worker!
Don’t cry bitter tears on your own feet, let them fall at His!
