“Have the people make an Ark…a sacred chest…
Place inside it the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant…
I will meet with you there and talk to you from above the atonement cover…
Exodus 25:10, 21, 22
It’s not surprising that the Ark was the first item God ordered to be built for His Tabernacle, because The Ark was to house the very power of God…His Word and His Presence.
As the story of the Israelites unfolds over the years, we have the privilege of seeing the power of the Ark in the lives of all who were near. When the Children of Israel finally left Mt. Sinai, the Ark as their guide. When the priests carrying the Ark stepped their feet in the Jordan River, the waters parted. When they marched around Jericho carrying the Ark, the walls fell. But, when the Philistines tried to house the Ark in the temple of Dagon, their god fell over on his face and broke to pieces!
While living in India, the prayer on my daily walks was, “God, how can I reach these people?” God’s simple answer one morning surprised me, “Just carry My Presence.” As He reminded me of those Ark stories, I began to realize the power of Who dwells in me! I too am His priest and I too carry HIS presence. The God I carry is the same One who parts waters, crumbles walls, and topples demons!
So, I choose to carry the Ark with confidence! Will you join me?
