“Jesus prayed this prayer, ‘O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleases you to do it this way.’”
Matthew 11:25-26 NLT
Following this prayer, Jesus talked about relationship—that no one knows the Father except those to whom the Son reveals Him. And those are the child-like.
In fact, Father revelations are hidden from those who think they’re wise and clever. Evidently “those” people assume they don’t need their Father! On the other hand, children KNOW they need their Daddy; so God reveals the secrets of relationship to those children.
There were two sacred places in my childhood where God revealed Himself to me. The first was a swing that hung from a big tree behind our ranch house. I ran to that refuge whenever I felt upset; and there as I cried and sang to Jesus, He became my best Friend. In that swing, relationship with God began through my child-like trust.
The altar at the front of a little church in Bassett, Nebraska was my second sacred place. Week after week I knelt beside my Daddy and gave my heart to Jesus all over again. At that altar, relationship with God was sealed by my child-like surrender.
To this day, I still run like a child to my swing and my altar. And there, My Father still reveals Himself to this seventy-three-year-old child!
Keep running to your sacred places of childhood,
Because it pleases Your Father to reveal Himself to you—
The child-like way!
