“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Matthew 5:14-16 NLT
Light is attractive, it’s beautiful and soothing. Light glows in the darkest night and gives security to everyone around. Isn’t THAT what Jesus expected His followers to be?
He said we are like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden! But maybe we don’t want people watching us! Some of us just wanna do our own thing! However, according to Jesus, light is meant to shine! In fact, He said nobody lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket—a lamp is always strategically placed so its light reaches the most people.
Perhaps it’s time to crawl out from under your security basket and start shining. Jesus said to let your good deeds shine out for all to see! When was the last time you helped an elderly person across the street, or baked a cake for your neighbor, or baby-sat for an exhausted mom’s toddler?
Can you imagine what would happen if EVERY follower of Jesus let their good deeds shine out to everybody around them? Why, there would be enough light to fill EVERY corner of darkness in the entire world! Then everyone would know—God is REALLY with us!
Don’t be a basket case any longer!
YOU may be the only light for YOUR world!
So get out there and shine!
