“And Elisha said, ‘This is what the Lord says: Dig ditches all over this dry stream bed. Even though you will not see any rain or wind, this stream bed will be filled with water, and you and your animals will have plenty to drink.’”
2 Kings 3:16-17 GNT
The kings of Israel, Judah, and Edom had mobilized their armies to fight rebellious Moab, but after traveling through the wilderness for seven days, they had no water. That’s when Elisha the prophet was called to give them a message of hope.
GOD promised to provide plenty of water, but THEY had to do their part—dig ditches! Digging itself is hard work but look WHERE these soldiers were told to dig—in the middle of a DRY valley! With no water in sight, this wilderness already looked like the valley of defeat.
But GOD said dig, just like He admonishes us! Right in the middle of the driest desert of our lives, when we feel like we have already been defeated, THAT is exactly where God says, dig! The ground may be hard as a rock but dig ditches to prepare for HIS rain. Keep on talking to Your Father, keep on listening to Him, keep on worshiping Him, keep on connecting with His people. Some days you may dig with a big shovel, other days with a small spoon, but keep on digging!
When your life appears hopeless, you do not feel like digging ditches. But digging is faith in action; digging is preparing for miracles! You may not hear any wind or see any rain, but…
The God who said dig also said YOUR valley WILL be filled with water!
