“Suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them, ‘Don’t be afraid!...
I bring you good news that will be great joy to ALL people.”
Luke 2:9-10
The shepherds were terrified when a blinding light disturbed their mundane routine, but the angel quickly reassured them, “Don’t be afraid!” He had news the shepherds had longed to hear their entire lives…the Savior is born! JESUS had finally come to earth to connect man to God, and yet when He arrived, they were afraid of His Light!
Like the shepherds, our lives can seem mundane and depressing, and we too long for change. Of course, God wants to set us free, but so often when He shines His light in our hearts, we run away! Understandably, Light reveals what we’ve kept hidden and disturbs our comfortable routine. That’s why the angel’s words were spoken for ALL people, “Don’t be afraid!”
What if the shepherds had been so concerned about hiding their untidy garments, that they didn’t hear the message of hope? What if their fear of looking undone had kept them from running to the manger? They would have missed connecting with the God who SO loved the world!
So, why should I keep on trying to hide my junk? Truth and Light simply show me what’s in my heart, so I can ask God to change it! Besides, it’s His purifying Light that opens the door for me to experience the angel’s Good News…relationship with God!
So, this coming year…let’s not be afraid of HIS Light!
