“During this period Joshua destroyed all the descendants of Anak, who lived in the hill country of Hebron, Debir, Anab, and the entire hill country of Judah and Israel…”
Joshua 11:21
Remember the story of the giants and grasshoppers? The ten spies focused on size of the giants, while Joshua and Caleb focused on the size of their God! Forty years later, those two men of faith led the new generation to slay the very giants their parents had feared!
When the land of Canaan was divided among the tribes of Israel, God commanded Joshua to give the land of the descendants of Anak to Caleb, who promptly drove out three groups of those giants.(15:13-14) In fact, one of the towns Caleb conquered was Hebron, originally named after Anak’s ancestor. So, the very land that belonged to giants became the first throne of King David…all because Caleb dared to believe that God would do what HE promised!
Joshua and Caleb not only believed and obeyed what God said, they also had courage to face the giants because they knew Who was with them! As they had exhorted their fearful brothers forty years earlier, Caleb again declared, “But if the Lord is with me, I will drive (the giants) out of the land, just as the Lord said.” (14:12)
Giant slayers are those who believe God, obey God, and face the giants…WITH God!
The others die in their own wilderness!
Me? I choose to be a giant slayer!
