“God Came Down”

“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

John 1:14 NLT

God’s first act after creating the world was to come down and walk with Adam and Eve in the Garden. How unbelievable…GOD wanted to “hang out” with His creation! But sadly, the beauty of that closeness was broken all too soon. When His kids chose to disobey their Father’s instructions, the precious relationship was severed.

Throughout Scripture we see God making the effort to restore that closeness. He appeared to Abraham several times. He came down and rescued the children of Israel. He hovered over the tabernacle in the wilderness. He even spoke face to face with Moses. Many years later, He came and stood with the three Hebrew children in the fiery furnace.

All these appearances were amazing! And yet, any personal interaction with God in the Old Testament was limited in the amount of time and the size of the audience. However, all that changed one night at a lowly manger…GOD came down and made His home with us! God became man, so He could live and walk with those He loved…amazing! God did not remain distant…He came close…so close that children could play with Him, so close that the sick could touch Him, so close that we could hear His voice and see His glory.

So, why should I ever question if God cares about me?

After all, God came down to live in MY world!
