“The cloud of the Lord hovered over the Tabernacle during the day,
and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it.
This continued throughout all their journeys.”
Exodus 40:38
When everything had been done according to the pattern given by God, and the purifying process was finished, THEN “the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.”
The greatest blessing on earth came after the people fulfilled two requirements: They obeyed, and they purified. Simple rules to follow, but incredible results...the Cloud of the Lord’s presence hovering day and night!
It was never God’s plan to hide from His people, so even in a wilderness camp He made Himself visible at all times. The cloud, though easily seen by day, would have been covered by darkness at night. Therefore, God placed a fire to glow inside the cloud…so the whole family of Israel could SEE it, both day and night! Not one person was denied this spectacular view!
It is possible that fire was always there IN the cloud, but its amazing glow could only be seen in the dark. The same is true for us…we may assume God is more visible in the sunshine. However, during the darkest hours our vision actually adjusts, and God’s character becomes even more defined and real.
So even if you are camped in a wilderness…no matter if it’s day or night,
God is not hiding…His presence is in plain sight for you, and every person in the family!
