“So Joshua circumcised their sons—those who had grown up to take their father’s places—for they had not been circumcised on the way to the Promised Land. After all the males had been circumcised, they rested in the camp until they were healed.”
Joshua 5:7-8
Poised to begin fighting for their Promised Land, the Israelites may have been surprised when Joshua prepared flint knives for surgery instead of weapons for war. Wouldn’t circumcision waste precious time?
But the battles ahead could only be won by the power of their God, and circumcision was the means of completing that covenant of relationship. Today, “True circumcision… is a change of heart…” (Romans 2:29). So, neither will we experience power of relationship unless we allow God’s surgery…on our hearts!
In 1997, God knew that for me to continue strong on the battlefield, my heart needed some extensive surgery. It was painful at times as His Sword exposed many clogged arteries. I knew the Surgeon needed to finish His work, but I kept trying to run back to the battlefield, until one day His words startled me, “Would you just let Me love you?” That’s when GOD implanted HIS Pacemaker and lovingly helped my heart process what HE was teaching me.
The Israelite men rested in camp until they were healed, and during their most vulnerable time, no enemy came to attack them! Their Surgeon was also their Protector!
We can trust that kind of Heart Specialist…
Even if the process takes long, we know HE will take care of us,
and together we will win any battle that follows!
