“And Elijah said to the king, ‘This is what the LORD says: Why did you send messengers to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will recover? Is there no God in Israel to answer your question? Therefore, because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will surely die.”
2 Kings 1:16
Since Abraham believed, relationship with God had been passed on from generation to generation. And yet, when King Ahaziah was in desperate need, instead of asking God for help, he called on a foreign god. No wonder Elijah was shocked, “Is there no God in Israel?” But evidently Ahaziah did not know God enough to trust Him!
The same can happen in any relationship. If we don’t spend time getting to KNOW a person, we will never learn to trust them. Likewise, if we don’t get to know God through relationship, then neither will we trust HIM. And with no trust in God, we fill that void by shopping for other gods. We soon begin clinging to whoever and whatever sounds attractive at the moment.
Like Elijah, I want to say, “Wait!” Do you assume God is old fashioned about today’s issues just because OTHERS say His is, or do YOU know HIM yourself? Have you run to other gods because you are angry at GOD? Why do you blame GOD for junk you have seen in churches when it’s really PEOPLE who have misrepresented HIM?
Please don’t learn the hard way—those other gods will steal your life, and they have no life to give back! But you know the truth…
There IS a GOD in your life!
When you know Him—you will trust HIM!
