“Life On the Rock or On the Rocks”

“He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair… (v.4)

Where are their gods, the rocks they fled to for refuge?... Let those gods arise and help you!

Let them provide you with shelter! Look now; I myself am he! There is no other god but me!...”

Deuteronomy 32:4, 37-39

The philosophies of this world sound enticing, but can they offer lasting joy, peace, or a solid foundation on which to stand?

Before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, God knew they would soon be enticed by other rocks. So, God gave Moses a song to be sung throughout the years as a reminder of Who offers real life.

The entire song proclaimed God as the Rock. It reminded the Israelites how HE had cared for them…how they had made light of the Rock and neglected the Rock…and how they faced disasters on their own because they broke relationship with the Rock.

In addition, the song recalled alternative rocks the Israelites had fled to for refuge…where were they now? Were those rocks helping or caring for them? No! They are only rocks, not THE Rock!

We too must beware of trying to stand on counterfeit rocks. They are slippery, unstable, and they cut our feet. The rock piles of this world may look attractive, but they are only theories tried by others and discarded as extinct. And no matter how long we sift through those rocks, they will never come to life! There is only one incarnate Rock…

Live on THE Rock and your life will not end up on the rocks!
