“The Lord in whose presence I have lived,
will send his angel with you and will make your mission successful…”
Genesis 24:40
When you live with someone, you get to know them thoroughly. You not only hear their words, but you observe their actions in every situation. Their true character is displayed in daily life.
According to Biblical data, Abraham would have been about one hundred and forty years old when he sent his servant to find a wife for his son, Isaac. By then, he had been following God for eighty years. Living in God’s presence, Abraham had the privilege of hearing God’s words and observing His actions. During those years, God repeatedly demonstrated that His character could be trusted. By the time Abraham climbed the mountain to sacrifice Isaac, he was able to verbalize that trust when he confidently stated, “We will worship, and WE will come back…” And indeed, BOTH did return, trusting even more in the God Who Provides.
No wonder Abraham was able to promise his servant without hesitation, “He will send his angel ahead of you, and He will see to it that you find a wife there for my son.” (24:7) Abraham KNEW the Lord in whose presence he had lived, and he KNEW without a doubt His God could be trusted.
“Oh Father, help me to live in Your Presence, so that I too will KNOW that YOU will!”
