“Made-to-Order Sandwich”

(Bread)…“But YOU have seen the Lord perform all these mighty deeds with your own eyes!

(Filling)…Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse!

(Bread)…Be careful to obey all my commands, so that all will go well with you…”

Deuteronomy 11:7, 26; 12:28

The offer Moses outlined in these verses sounds like a specialty sandwich, made with GOD's bread. One side of the sandwich is the manna of God’s faithful deeds in the past. The other side of the sandwich is the manna of God’s promises for the future. However, the filling for the sandwich is made-to-order.

God gave man the freedom to choose his own filling. There are two options on the menu: choose the “obey God’s ways” button to order blessingschoose the “reject God’s ways” button to order curses. But there is a warning: the filling chosen will definitely affect the two sides of manna: a person who obeys God is thankful for God’s past manna and will continue receiving more promised manna every day. On the other hand, the person who rejects God’s ways not only shows contempt for past manna, but their filling spoils the promised manna before it ever arrives! No wonder Moses admonished his people eight times in these two chapters to be careful to obey! Their whole life sandwich depended on it!

The Master Baker lovingly created special manna for my life sandwich, so may I never spoil His manna by filling it with my own selfish ways. Instead, I choose God’s ways and pray that my sandwich of blessings will look so delicious that others will want to order their own!
