“My Allotment”

“But Moses gave no allotment of land to the tribe of Levi,

for the Lord, the God of Israel, had promised that he himself would be their allotment.”

Joshua 13:33

I have often wondered what I will have to leave my children when I die. Even though God has lovingly provided all our needs these past fifty years, Ron and I have not accumulated many riches on this earth.

Perhaps the Levites wondered the same thing. When the Promised Land was divided, each of the tribes received an allotment of land which was described by its borders and the towns within those borders. However, for the tribe of Levi, there was no description of land. Instead, GOD promised that He Himself would be their allotment!

Is it even possible to compare allotments of land with the allotment of God Himself? To have the privilege of living in the presence of God Almighty defies understanding. But because of Jesus’ death, I have that same privilege…relationship with God Himself! I have the privilege of living in His Presence twenty-four/seven. THAT is my allotment, for I too am a priest unto God. (1 Pet. 2:9)

On September 30, 2013 I wrote these lines in my journal, “I don’t have much physical inheritance to pass on, but the Lord Himself is my allotment! What God has shared with me of Himself, my treasures, I must pass on. That is my children’s inheritance.”

And I truly believe, there is no greater allotment to pass on!
