“Then Elisha went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’ And the water has remained pure to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.”
2 Kings 2:21-22 NIV
The elders of Jericho had come to Elisha for help because their water was bad, and their land was unproductive. Elisha simply threw salt into the spring of water and declared the LORD’s promise that the water was healed and would never again cause death or make the land unproductive.
We all remember the story of Jericho—its walls collapsed, and the destruction was so devastating that Joshua invoked a curse of death on whoever tried to rebuild it. Sometimes our lives can feel like the crumbled city of Jericho. We try to rebuild the ruins, but every attempt feels like it’s cursed. The bitterness in our hearts contaminates the living water Jesus put in our veins, so our bodies are chronically ill, our lives become hopelessly unproductive, and finally our dreams get buried under the rubble of depression.
BUT, when the LORD told the people of Jericho their water would be healed, it WAS healed! And when the LORD said never again would bad water cause death, the water REMAINED pure! Never underestimate the importance of your little steps of faith, and never underestimate the power of the LORD who turns bitter into sweet…
When HE declares the “bad waters” of your life have been healed,
then never again will they cause death!
