“O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God. Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others…
Psalm 25:1-3 NLT
It was only my third day at the counseling center when David’s prayer caught my attention: “Do not let me be disgraced.” Since disapproval is a synonym for disgrace, I knew it was time for this woman who had worn herself out trying to please everybody to ponder what God was saying. Had my longing for people’s approval caused me to be dishonest about my own faults? Had I deceived people by trying to pretend I had it all together?
David prayed, “No one who TRUSTS in YOU will ever be disgraced.” But, had I really been trusting GOD, or was I acting as if I got this? The wake-up call was good, especially since my loving Shepherd was right there beside me. So, like David, I prayed, “Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by YOUR truth and teach me.” (v 4-5)
The God of unfailing love answered that prayer. Day after day I was in awe as HE showed me Truth in His Word and then outlined the right path for ME to live that Truth. Each step in Truth took me further away from lies and disgrace!
“May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in YOU.”
Psalm 25:21
“What joy for those…whose lives are lived in complete honesty!”
Psalm 32:2
