“Then the LORD gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel.”
1 Kings 18:46
Elijah had one of those days—packed so full he should have collapsed. First, he had to face the man who blamed him for the famine. With boldness, Elijah summoned King Ahab, the 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah, plus all the people of Israel to Mt. Carmel. There alone, Elijah challenged his enemies all day long.
Elijah also labored physically, repairing the altar, digging trenches, and preparing the sacrifice. Then after God responded with fire and the people had repented, Elijah led them in killing all the false prophets in a massive victory.
At the end of that exhausting day, while King Ahab went to feast, Elijah climbed to the top of the mountain to fast and pray. By the time rain clouds finally began to form, anybody in Elijah’s sandals would have been bone weary. However, THEN the LORD gave special strength to Elijah. He pulled up his cloak and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way back home!
Notice the timing of that SPECIAL strength—on Elijah’s most debilitating day! So, when we have one of those days, we too can pull up our socks and run faster than ever before, because on THOSE days, the LORD gives SPECIAL strength.
And every time you have one of THOSE days, you can outrun the enemy all the way home!
