“The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.
We saw the glory with our own eyes…”
John 1:14 The Message
I will never forget the day when a huge semi pulled up in front of our house. It was loaded with awesome gifts designed for us by my dear brother. As each piece of this incredible furniture was carefully unwrapped, I stood in awe, marveling that such treasures could actually make their home with me.
One starry night long ago, another treasure was delivered to its new home. Only this time there was no semi, no movers, and no dwelling in which to place this remarkable treasure. Instead, one small baby boy, wrapped in swaddling clothes, was delivered to a lowly manger.
That little baby became a Man, and that Man moved into our neighborhood. As His life unwrapped before us, we too beheld the unbelievable. “How could this be? How could such a Treasure actually make His home with us?” What a mystery that this Man would choose to walk alongside us in our mundane ordinary lives. He was no longer a God far away, but He willingly became God on my street.
God became flesh and moved into our neighborhood…THAT is Christmas. God moved in…a neighbor unlike any we had ever known…a neighbor full of love and grace…a neighbor who would never forsake us. However, this unique Man “was in the world…and yet the world didn’t even notice.” (John 1:10 The Message)
Immanuel, God with Us…
Have you noticed Him in your neighborhood?
He did not just come for Christmas…He moved in to stay!
