“The God Who Observes”

“Now the LORD observed the extent of the people’s wickedness and he saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil…Now the earth had become corrupt in God’s sight, and it was filled with violence. God observed all this corruption in the world, and he saw violence and depravity everywhere.”

Genesis 6:5, 11-12

For those who assume they can hide from God, these words could sound alarming! The definition of observe is “to watch carefully especially with attention to details or behavior for the purpose of arriving at a judgment.” God monitors, He pays close attention to us, and His eyes discern what our human eyes cannot.

But wait! Before you become overwhelmed with fear of being stalked by God, let’s look at the next verse: “So God said to Noah, I have decided…” As He proceeded to unveil His plan to wipe out humanity, God was even more careful to clarify His plan to save Noah and his family. When God observes, He indeed sees the ugly messes we have made. But because God is Love, what His eyes observe causes His heart to act! LOVE cannot simply see and walk away.

Our observant God is an acting God. How many times did God rescue the children of Israel when He observed their messes? How many times did His unfailing love prompt His deliverance? So, don’t be afraid of what God may see when He looks at your life. Before God’s eyes ever observe you, His heart has already chosen to love you!

God already has plans to deliver you, too!

Will you let Him?
