“The Lord Remembered”

“…Then Hannah went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad.

The entire family got up early the next morning and went to worship…

the Lord remembered her plea, and in due time she gave birth to a son…”

1 Samuel 1:18-19

Crying bitter tears can be exhausting unless the LORD is listening! Hannah was pouring out her deep anguish in prayer, but when God’s messenger told her, “Go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of Him,” Hannah’s entire life changed.

Hannah’s response is intriguing. Instead of being reduced to tears and not even eating (v. 7), Hannah began to eat again, was no longer sad, and went with the family (which included the other wife who had taunted her) to worship the Lord! What a demonstration of faith!

The Lord DID remember Hannah’s tearful plea, and He granted her request, a son. However, I think the Lord remembered something even more important, Hannah’s display of faith! Yes, God most certainly remembers all our prayers and bitter tears, but He also remembers how we respond to His promises. He sees our reaction when He speaks promises that will heal and truth that will set us free, and those actions reveal whether we believe Him or not.

When I cry to the Lord, He faithfully reminds me of HIS Word. If I truly believe what He says, then I will act in faith, and face the “not yet” with joy! And like for Hannah, GOD will birth the miracle for which I cried…in due time.
