“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you.”
Psalms 9:10
I was in my third year of university when I realized that I knew a lot ABOUT God, but I didn’t really KNOW God. That shock sent me on a life-long quest—to discover what God is like. And what better place to look than in HIS Book!
When I began to read the Bible with purpose, I saw God’s character on every page and fell in love with Him. Surprisingly, the more I KNEW God, the more I TRUSTED Him! So many years later when I walked through my own dust and ashes experience, I could TRUST the God I’d been getting to KNOW for over forty years!
As I was trying to dig some hope from the bottom of my emotional barrel, I noticed the first part of this Psalm, “I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart.” (At that point, praise certainly didn’t stem from my feelings!) “I will be filled with joy because of you.” (Joy certainly didn’t dwell in me because of my circumstances!)
However, on January 5, 2010 I wrote in my journal: “Joy from relationship—YOU are my joy…no matter what… YOU don’t abandon those who search for You (v 10) and YOU don’t ignore the cries of those who suffer. (v 12)” I needed to KNOW that God more than ever before, because…
Those who KNOW Him will TRUST Him!
