“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you…” (NLT) “Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace…Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:29-30 The Message
Living under Jesus’ yoke may sound inhibiting, but I’m learning that the yoke is actually freeing—IF I let Him teach me!
First, Jesus shows me the Father. What better way to learn what my Heavenly Father is like, than to be yoked to His Son? Jesus acts just like His Father!
Second, Jesus demonstrates the secrets of the Kingdom. Yoked to Jesus, the embodiment of God’s Kingdom, I watch Kingdom life in action—what it means to be child-like, dependent on Father, how to be humble and gentle, how to die to myself, serve others, and give grace, even when it hurts.
Third, Jesus teaches me the “unforced rhythms of grace.” No longer do I wear myself out, performing tasks that are forced by my own insecurity. Instead, I learn to rest in God’s grace to me, and then give that same grace to others.
“Unforced rhythms of grace” – what a beautiful description of yoke living. Perhaps that’s what Jesus meant when He said, “Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.” In GOD’s grace, life is never forced, because the rhythms of grace flow freely—from God—to me—and then through me—to others!
Yoked to Jesus—what a way to live!
I plan to keep learning those unforced rhythms of HIS grace the rest of my life!
