“When the Brook Dries Up”

“But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land.”

1 Kings 17:7

When Elijah predicted there would be a famine, God already had a plan to take care of His prophet— “Go hide by Kerith Brook…drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you. For I have commanded them to bring you food.” As God promised, the ravens brought Elijah food and the brook brought him water—until the brook dried up!

Your brook may be in the form of employment or an opportunity to serve others, but perhaps you recall a time when that brook dried up! What then? In Elijah’s case, God already had another plan— “Go and live in the village of Zarephath…I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”

A dried-up brook has never stopped God from providing for His kids. HE is the SOURCE of miracles, and HE chooses the channel through which they will flow. For Elijah, God commanded a brook and instructed a widow. However, Elijah also had a role: He did what God said and went where God sent. Then, GOD kept His miracles flowing!

If one brook dries up in Arizona, it is not because the world’s entire water source is depleted! Likewise, if my brook dries up, it does not mean God’s provisions are finished. Brooks change, but their SOURCE never will!

So, when one brook dries up—

Trust the SOURCE for His next one!
