“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7-8 NLT
I have heard so many sermons on this passage, but often I go away feeling like it’s all my fault—I didn’t ask, or seek, or knock enough! Obviously, I’m part of this equation—I need to keep on asking and expecting answers. However, Jesus’ teaching focuses on WHO ensures those miracles WILL happen!
Jesus made it clear—when you ask, you will receive, when you seek, you will find, and when you knock, the door will be opened. WILL means it’s inevitable; WILL ensures the capability of that action. Jesus defined you as everyone and defined that capable Person as Our Father.
Children know when they’re hungry, they can eat at their parents’ table; when they’re tired, they can sleep in a bed their parents provided. Children are part of the family, and therefore live in the blessings of that home. Jesus said, “How much MORE WILL our heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.” (v.11)
The power of will comes from the power of relationship! If you have asked to be God’s child, then God is YOUR Father. When you ask, seek, or knock, of course you WILL receive, you WILL find, and doors WILL be opened, because you are part of the family, and Father WILL take care of HIS kids.
In Father’s family, there’s enough WILL power for everyone!
